Bot Smart - What it is & How to do it.

Featured Replies

Around the forums you may see me say the phrase "bot smart" and this is what I mean when I say it.

The following has several pointers on how to minimize the chance of getting banned while botting:

For personal bots (botting on a main):

1. Never bot more than 6-8 hours a day and 2-3 hours in one instance.

2. Take at least one full 8-10 hour break every day to make it seem like your sleeping. (because what person do you know plays 24/7?)

3. Don't bot the same thing for more than a couple of days, switch up what and where you bot.

4. Don't bot in high ban rate areas, and don't use scripts with high ban rate. (what is high ban rate? things that are common areas/bots that people get banned in/while using, like alching in the Pest Control bank or flax or woodcutting).

5. Never log into your main on runescape on the same IP as ones that have goldfarming accounts. (why? because this unmasks your main account and can mean Jagex can run an IP check).

6. If you bot more than 2-3 hours a day put ALL your valuable items and gold on a "mule" or "bank" account until you are done botting. (what is a mule/bank account? an account you have that you never bot on, so it should never get banned for botting. Do note though if you move a large amount at once it could be banned for real world trade).

7. Don't dress like a bot, have some armor or something worth something on. (basically don't look like you just came out of Tut Island)

8. Play LEGIT through Jagex's client for a couple hours a day, go questing, do some community events, or treasure trails, etc. (Just something a bot wouldn't be able to do ATM)

9. On botting forums do not link directly to any Jagex websites, servers, APIs etc. Because if its directing linking to their server from ours or other botting servers, they will be able to archive cookies (Or website data packets) from the linking site and possibly use this to run IP checks on characters. If you must link make it like this:

http://oldschool(dot)runescape(dot)com/
(^ Don't ignore this, this includes links to the runescape forums).

10. Go on your account sometimes and talk to some people or chat with some people in your friends list.

>> 10.1: turn off all the chat options at the bottom when your botting so if you get banned you could just say "i didn't know people were talking to me" (remember that the mods and Jmods PMs will ALWAYS show up though).

11. Use good scripts with a lower ban rate. I would suggest checking out script threads before buying, go to the last page and see what people are saying if they said it hasn't been working/getting lots of bans in the last 2-3 days i would wait for when that script works again or just not use it if it has been producing a lot of bans. I would not suggest using free scripts on an account you care about as these are often very high ban rate.

12. Don't buy more than about 200m gold at one time to avoid flagging Jagex's trade analysis system.

For goldfarming bots:

1. A VPN or VPS with a different IP is a MUST. (this will mask your home IP address from Jagex)

2. Never log into any goldfarming accounts unless you're connected to the VPN/VPS.

3. If you want to minimize bans on goldfarming accounts only run them for 12 hours a day and have them off the rest of the time.

4. Another way to minimize bans on goldfarming accounts is to have it take breaks and switch where you have it bot.

5. Never trade gold directly to a main, always take at least 1 step in between your gold farming accounts and your main. (Make sure that when you trade from your gold farmers to your in-between account that it is not on your home IP. Do note that Jagex can trace all trades and still could ban you for real world trade).

6. Never trade more than 200m gold at one time to avoid raising a flag in Jagex's trade analysis system. (This applies to selling and buying gold even for a main account).

For if you have been banned recently:

1. You either are unlucky or you did not bot smart.

2. If you just got banned for Macroing Minor that means that you have been doing bot like behavior. (This is usually an automated ban caught by their botwatch).

>> 2.1: these bans usually are usually for 24, 48 and 72 hours, but i have seen some people get them for 7, 10 or 14 days also.

>> 2.2: this type of ban means that Jagex's system caught on to a macro style of playing and flagged you.

>> 2.3: typical Macroing Minor photos:

3. If you just got banned for a Bot Busting Moderate that means a Jagex Moderator was wherever your bot was and manually banned you.

>> 3.1: these bans usually last for 24 or 48 hours but can sometime be 14 days or even a permanent ban rarely.

>> 3.2: typical Bot Busting Moderate photos:

4. If you got banned for Macroing Moderate that means you had a previous offence of botting and you continued to bot. (This is usually an automated ban caught by their botwatch).

>> 4.1: These bans usually last 14 or 21 days.

5. If you got banned for Macroing Major this means that Jagex feels confident in knowing that you were in-fact botting and has thus permanently banned you. (These are often automated bans caught by their botwatch or manual bans less often).

>> 5.1 If you have been banned for Macroing Major this is always a perm ban and the only way to appeal is below.

>> 5.2 These bans are sometimes referred to as "Macroing Goldfarmer" as well

>> 5.3 typical Macroing Major photos:

6. Do not bother appealing an account that has a macroing offense, it will come back after 14 days as denied or just stay pending forever.

7. If you truly want to appeal a ban you must email Jagex directly to actually get a real person.

>> 7.1: Jagex's email address:

gDQUYqU.png

8. If you have been permanently banned and trying to appeal your account via the email above you do NOT want to be a smart ass.

>> 8.1: Use proper spelling and grammar.

>> 8.2: Act mature and don't be rude or you're wasting your time.

9. One ban is not that big of a deal if it is your first offense as long as its a Macroing Minor offense or Bot Busting Moderate, but you can't bot again or they could perm you.

10. If you were banned when you were NOT logged in that means Jagex has been watching your account because they noticed bot like activity.

11. Be careful botting other accounts on the same IP as a banned account as they may check IPs.

12. So long as you don't get another macroing offense in the expiry time of the last you shouldn't get permanently banned.

Never EVER share your RS Character Name on a forum:

Jagex has been known to troll on Scythe and botting websites looking for people who post pictures of their account in proggies or just for general pictures, and possibly mentioning in just regular posts:

Willing to edit for other peoples pointers too biggrin.png.

Remember in the end these tips do help BUT its a numbers game and you always run the risk of a ban or rollback when using botting software.

Good tips, but most of these are just common sense really.

very good tips, another one I'd add for the main is wear something that has value but is still nooby like D hide or a rune piece .

true but still good to know :D

Thanks for the gold farming section, I usually follow all the steps you put down on a main account. However I plan to start goldfarming soon, so far I only have one account farming and my main, currently I'm just using the money from my goldfarming account to fund things for my main, but at the end of the month I do plan on getting 4-5 accounts and a VPS to start farming more.

nice thx but is fishing @fishing guld high ban rate?

I believe the fishing guild isn't TOO high ban rate but i'm not sure, i put a link in the original post that goes to a thread that tracks the ban rate.

How frequently do jmods issue bans through looking through system logs to see exp gains and login times? Or are all their bans issued through personally going to places and manually banning bots?

One of the suggestions I would add to botting smart is that you should play legit at least one hour a day. Do some quests, do some trading, talk to people. Show Jagex that you aren't just some crazy guy who only gets on to woodcut for 10 hours. Nobody just plays for one skill, or to sit and grind all day (except maybe those guys ranked #1 on the Hi Scores). If you take in more aspects of the game play they provide such as quests and mini-games (preferably not botting), you'll definitely be less considered as a botter.

Source: I've done this on all the accounts I bot on, I've never been banned in 2 years of botting. I have a nearly maxed pure account whose magic, ranged, woodcutting, fletching, thieving, strength, fishing, and cooking have all been botted. I bot for 10-12 hours a day, take a "main" break (6-8 hours) and play legit for 1-3 hours a day.

any advice on where to get a free vps to mask ip for now? i have one called ghost vps but that lags and is extremely slow

I agree I've been doing this on my main for example getting a couple quests out of the way for rfd or going on pk trips. Good point.
