New Laptop Help.

Recommended Posts

I just recently broke my laptop screen. My laptop has been my baby for the last 2 years. It was an acer.

I'm looking for some help on picking a laptop.

I want it to run forums, Facebook, old school rs, Skype and iTunes. All at once smoothly.

I want one with a decent mouse and trackpad. I don't want those shitty ones that have the clicker built into the trackpad.

I probably want an acer as I have always been happy with using them.

I want one under 1k and I want it 8gb ram with 750gb or bigger hdd.

Thanks in advance for helping.

Under 1k:

MSI - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152570

Gigabyte - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233023R

I'll look a bit further for an acer for you, but I don't really like that brand to be honest.

Why not? I currently have an Acer and it's a 4 year old which still runs smooth. I might buy a new battery to replace the current one because my battery doesn't last that long anymore! This computer has always done its job. Do you have any other experiences?

I bought this 2 weeks ago it's great, can run 3 RS clients, Teamspeak, plenty Youtubes, iTunes, Facebook at like 50% CPU usage.

Highly reccomended, great value for money.

I was thinking of getting that, but I got an alienware m14 instead

Saving a couple of hundred dollars & going from an under $1000 laptop to a $1200-1500 laptop makes a big difference

The Alienware got same CPU and GPU as the Gigabyte which was linked on this thread, for +700$.

Do you have the charger plugged in to your computer while you're on it?

Only when it needs to be charged but I think over the course of time, the lifetime of my battery has dropped.

That's only natural and should be expected. It's just wear and tear, it degrades over time. Charging your battery while you're actually using the computer kills the battery twice as fast.

When you have a battery, the laptop takes energy from the battery, even if you have it plugged in. So when you have a charger plugged in, the battery is being forced to do twice as much as it should since it needs to charge up and then give out energy to the laptop all at the same time. This goes for any device. It's best to use it then charge it when the device isn't in use. But batteries will die out eventually, just some have a longer life expectancy than others, but it all depends on the individual use of the battery.

I didn't know this a while ago and now my battery is dead, but I don't feel like buying a new one so I just keep my battery and charger in at the same time. xD YOLO!

@OP, I like MSI and Lenovo laptops just because they're generally strong and durable. I'm thinking of getting a new laptop but mine still works so I don't care so much about a new one at the moment.
