Why do people treat graduating high school as one of life's greatest accomplishments?

 

That's like having a party because a baby spoke its first word or someone going to work...

 

It's usually just the next step in life. Most people make the transition of living on their own, etc after high school. Not really an accomplishment, just celebrating the fact that it's a big step.
