Why does racism still exist in our Society?

Featured Replies

Despite the fact all races of people have equally contributed to our worlds economy and the evolution of our technology, there is still an incredible amount of ignorance all around the world.

I personally don't take offence to racism because to me it's all a load of crap and anyone who's racist isn't someone I'm willing to let upset me since they're not really worth thinking about.

Prejudice is probably the main side of racism that I hate, when people label somebody by their ethnic background because of the actions of one individual or based on something they don't even comprehend.

I enjoy racial humor, I always have back to back with my real life friends and we have a laugh and at the end of the day everybody is happy, whereas some people actually feel hatred towards a certain group of people based on the colour of their skin, and it's disgusting really.

I myself am Half Black and Half White, my Mother is of English decent and my Father Jamaican, and they've been married for 27 years despite the fact that at first her family originally objected to her marrying my Dad.

Unfortunately I believe we will NEVER live in a world where racism is completely alienated, in our modern day environment not many people are racist, or at-least they're not open about it which creates an image of diversity & equality between different backgrounds, but in the same sense, on literally every YouTube video you could scroll down and there would be somebody being called a filthy 'N-Word' or some other kind of racial slur for literally no reason, people post comments towards people who aren't even Black but use the N word to upset others without any justification (Not that is can be justified in the first place)

By being racist and verbally/physically abusing people and supporting organisations such as; the 'KKK' and 'EDL' you gain nothing, you're just labeled as ignorant and unpleasant, so why to this day people insist on using skin colour as an insult I don't know.

I'm interested in what people think on the subject, even if you yourself, are a racist I will respect your views as long as you don't intent to offend others.

I think racism still exists because some people just feel soo proud. They do not think like us. We treat every person the same no mather wat race, but some people... they think they are better than otheres becuase they got a diferent skin color. Why? we will never know..

I like your topics! They bring up good discussions.

Haha thanks :)

Another interesting topic :)

I personally hate racism, the thought of someone being better then another person through the color of their skin is just beyond me. I wish people would just open their eyes and realize that we were all created equal, but we are unique in our own way. I think that racism has been around for so long that it is being passed down in families today, and I don't think truly racism will ever be gone for good but I hope for a day that it will.

oh my, grats on Global Mod :D

I do not understand it myself. It is a very complex question. It would involve hundreds of factors.

I think we can chalk it up fairly easily by saying that it is in our nature to do so. We fear what we don't understand. So maybe the only effect way to fight prejudice is through education.  Someone asked this one girl I know, "what if you dated a black guy?" She said, "my dad would be angry because he doesn't believe in that, but we are not racist." I have no idea how that could not be prejudice.

Old Habits die hard. The more generations we have the less racism there will be, but i doubt it will ever be completely gotten rid of.

I agree

I would have to disagree. I think racism is very much alive. The only difference is that its hard to legislate them.

It is the only part of racism I dislike, and in my opinion the only definition of racism is prejudice based on race. Stereotyping by race is a beneficial practice so long as you don't let prejudice slip in - the expert practice of this is better known as "cross cultural psychology." (yes, I'm aware of the ascending specifications of culture, to ethnicity, to race...)

Racism will always exist, and at this point it has dwindled pretty well here in the US - nearly to what is the necessary goal.

It exists due to the fact the way one is brought up, it depends on their norms and values the way they have been socialised etc.

I agree to some extent, some parents and families have a huge influence on peoples racial views.

"Despite the fact all races of people have equally contributed to our worlds economy and the evolution of our technology"

That is incorrect, however, it doesn't matter that certain races have contributed more than others towards what you stated.

Racism is pretty horrible, but it seems to be a part of who we are as a sentient species.

Personally, I get really offended by racism. It effects me quite a lot where I live (it's just the racist abuse or small things like people saying things like "why aren't you weird, usually pakistani people [usually "pakis" which I tend to find offensive..#because of how it's used#] are weird"/getting treated differently/most arguments with strangers lead to insults based on race). The list goes on and on unfortunately ;x.

Each race does have minor differences (it has been proven, there is a reason why humans are all unique [i forgot the word for it but it's for a better survival rate]) and can have major cultural differences and I believe people are racist because of those differences + other external factors like upbringing (the example is a major factor).

Sorry about the badly worded/structured post, I'm pretty tired but I wanted to post on this thread ><..

Because people will always judge people they don't know by how they look. If we were all the same skin colour we'd be judging people even more by hair length or hair colour.

Just how it is unfortunately :/
