June 15, 201312 yr I bought an HP Pavilion dm4 today, but the graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 3000) can't run any games such as Skyrim. Can I improve it? shouldn't a 700 dollar laptop have a better graphics card than that? I'm not really interested in buying a new card and installing it myself. Plus I have read that it is almost impossible to replace a graphics card on a laptop. Edit: Here's a link to the specs of the card. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000.37948.0.html Edited June 15, 201312 yr by Cinno
June 15, 201312 yr ooh burn.. is it too late to return? i jhust bought this and its so fucking sweet lenovo y400 1tb intel i7 quadcore 2.4ghz (cant remember the exact name atm) 8gb ram nvidia 650gtm 1gb x 2 red backlit keyboard thats what i thought was crazy that it was actually 2 graphics cards rather than 1 with expanded memory. or atleast thats what some1 told me... either way it runs every game i have tried on it (crysis 3)... it was 800$ total with 2 day shipping. i got it a little bit cheaper cuz im a student it is possible to replace graphics cards on laptops. it is a little bit harder than desktops. I have replaced my GPU and CPU in my desktop... never tried the laptop but everyone says its more difficult (i don't see why it would be except that everything is smaller and you might have to remove more parts to add other parts) Edited June 15, 201312 yr by iPetrified
June 15, 201312 yr Lol return it. For $700 I can get you a computer twice as good as that and can run skyrim easily.
June 15, 201312 yr Author Well, here's the catch. The laptop was half off on a clearance table for 350$ with about 6 other laptops. I called Walmart and they said I could not return a clearance laptop, nor could I have them install a better graphics card as I was told by the employee that it would be able to run any new game. I am thinking of selling it on ebay for 400 bucks (profit 25 dollars) and then just buy a desktop that could run any game for years to come. If this is the case, could someone link me to where I could buy such computer for 400?
June 15, 201312 yr You won't be able to get a desktop that can even run game sout today for 400. Get $600 and I can get you a good ass desktop. Add my skype rotmgtank to talk.
June 15, 201312 yr Author I'm probably just going to keep this then. It can still run games like Minecraft while running a bot.
June 18, 201312 yr Most computers come out with a Crappy Video Card Driver, you would need to spend a high amount of money for a very good gaming Driver.
June 19, 201312 yr First of all, this is something you should know about all stores that sell you a computer, is that half of the time they don't know what they're talking about. They tell you what you want to hear so they can sell you the product. One thing you should always do before buying a laptop you've been looking at and wanting to buy, is do some research on it to see if it can perform how you want it to. Just because the price of a computer is high, doesn't mean it can run very high graphic games such as Skyrim. There's something called over priced, which is what a lot of people use these days. Also, $400 will not get you a good gaming desktop, once you hit the $600-$700~ margin, that's when your computer can perform playing games such as Battlefield, Crysis, and Skyrim. If you have recently bought the product, I think Wal-Mart has a 30-day money back guarantee, if not it may be a 14-day. If they deny your money back and you're still in the time frame of getting your money back, you can talk to a store manager, or get the police involved.
June 19, 201312 yr I like to have my laptop that can run minimal games and do other things, whereas I have my desktop who is a monster and I play all the big boy games on.
June 20, 201312 yr 600$ a good computer? No, a good graphics card, a GTX 660 is around 250 - 300 if i'm not wrong. He could get a decent gaming pc to run games on low and not lag, also depends on your monitor.
June 20, 201312 yr Administrator You will be able to return it to walmart, as long as you have your receipt and its within 14 days i think. I am telling you don't call them. Go up there with the laptop the box + everything that came with it and have a receipt with you also. Then go up there go to the customer service desk. Tell them your car just broke and you have to return it to pay for the car to get fixed and its within the days required.
June 21, 201312 yr Well it is a laptop so it won't be the best for running games, should've built your own PC.
