Working for yourself > Working for others

Looks like we about to get ourselves a philosophy debate going. Look man live your life how you want, If I work for someone I am not sure who they are since I don't answer to someone, but if through some convoluted way if that's how you see it that's fine. All I know is the only person cashing in on me are the people who I buy parts from, and hopefully soon that won't be the case.

I started out with the 100% intention of being an autopart manufacturer/trader (Such as Autozone/Oreileys/Advanced) but money just started coming from this angle and I went after it where I could find it. I am doing very well but if I have to be honest I hope in 5 years I no longer am running a diesel performance/repair shop, I hope I own an injection/turbo/headstud specialist company that the industry looks up towards. (Such as Swamps Diesel, Industrial Injection, ARP, and Bombshelter)

That's why i started buying my parts wholesale (ty china) and rebuilding them to my specifications. Also a personal goal is to create a tuner that becomes famous across diesels (Such as H&S XRT Pro, SCT, Mini maxx, etc)

I'm starting to ramble on but yeah that's the jest of it. 5 years ago if you told me I would own and be running a diesel performance shop I would have scoffed (I had then just been getting into flipping on ebay which is how this all started) but it's funny the directions life leads us.

My reasoning behind the claim isn't that convoluted.

In my opinion, in trade, you can only claim you work exclusively for yourself when your supplier(s) make less out of your business than you do.

But good luck with your ventures! Seems cool wink.png

Auto shops main source of revenue is labor, auto parts are only partially marked up and usually only cover utities, labor covers supplies and wages, plus operating cost and then my profit.

There is no doubt suppliers make loads of money though
