Hey guys, right now I'm considering creating an obby mauler, since they seem like fun accounts to pk with. I havent created an obby mauler before, so not really 100% sure what stats I would need to get, so need some tips

I'm thinking about just creating a 1 def/1 att obby mauler with 55 slayer (will take a looong time). I will obviously get as high str as possible and I'm considering training ranged when I'm like 60+ str, since it'll lower their hp faster in wildy

I need to do the quests for Mithril Gloves - but is there other quests I would need to do? Got any other tips for what I should do? Is the idea with ranged good or should I just use maul in fights?

What weapon is best when training with 1 att only? Is red topaz the best at 1 att or is there other weps worth using? Obv going to use slayer staff when I'm 55 slay

99 str 67 mage/range to stay melee based, and ye red topaz is best without 55 slay.

Didnt think about mage, wouldnt it give me alot of cb lvls?

Basically from what you said you have 2 different scenarios:

 

1) You claimed that you were using range then killing with the maul. If you are planning to max out your mauler (or get it decently high level), then I would recommend doing "Death Plateu" quest, this gives you access to Climbing boots and 16 Attack. This also gives you access to a grand total of 87 range (I believe don't quote me on that). This also grants you much more accuracy when you have 16 attack and you will max out much more often hitting them 45's.

 

This in my opinion would be the more viable option to you seeming as you are going Range->Maul.

 

2) You can stay 1 Attack and 1 Defence, however the maximum amount of range or magic you can get is 67, above that you have stuffed up your mauler and it is 100% Ranged/Magic based (IE: You will gain combat levels from range @ 68 + and you cannot balance it out with more strength, because you already have 99 strength, and you aren't getting attack). Now with your tactic of going Range->Maul, having this limitation isn't a wise option for yourself.

 

Majority of the people who stay 1 Attack 1 Defence and 99 Strength use primarily melee (IE: Slayer staff as you said), they would poison the opponent, use recoils, slayer staff, then switch to the maul for the kill.

I might actually go for Death Plateau quest then, I can then train with like black scim or so till slayer staff then :P suppose thats the best.

 

Never really seen other maulers with 16 att so dont know if its that common, but seems like its really worth it.

Yeah true, I might get some mage lvls :P Also what about pray? Just 25 or 31? or not at all? 

43 for firecape or 52 for smite.

I don't play Runescape, so i don't know much. But have you tried to search in youtube a guide for obby mauler? Maybe you can get ideas from there too.
