moving camera upwards, like in the image below, if and only if the distance to the entity/npc is <= 6. If it's higher, then walkminimap to that entity/npc.

 

and then interacting with the entity/npc.

 

 

certainly wouldn't be a substitute for the move camera to entity, and wouldn't be usable in all cases, but would be good enough for most of them anyway.
