Marijuana: Legal or illegal.

illegal.

I think it should be legal. I mean it's been proven to have no bad effects. I personally used to be anti-marijuana and I tried my best to try and prove my friend wrong that it's bad. I researched EVERYWHERE and I couldn't come up with anything. The only study that said that weed damages brain cells have been proven wrong. And I don't get why alcohol and tobacco are ok but weed isn't. Alcohol causes people to be violent and it's kinda pretty obvious it's bad. Tobacco has worse effects than weed does, too. Weed isn't a drug, it's a plant. Yeah it makes you feel high but nothing bad comes of it. The ONLY reason I found of why it should be illegal is because its medical-related and that it won't be ok for people to plant their own "medicine" because it interferes with some pharmacy related law or some shit.

It has never been proven to have no "bad" effects.

I used to be anti-marijuana until a friend of mine dared me to find proof that it does have bad effects. I looked everywhere and sure, there's a lot of claims, but you can't find the studies that back them up lol. The only one I found that says that marijuana damages brain cells and the nerves was a study made on monkeys where they gave them a shitton of weed EVERYDAY in ridiculous amounts. I don't recall what it was called but it was proven to be false. If you think it has "bad" effects, I'd like to know where you read that. I'd still like to prove my friend wrong smile.png

smoking a lot of weed can harm your shortterm memory. You would have to smoke a lot and very often but I know people where it shows very clear that this has effect.

It can also lead to problems with your lungs and heart.

But it's not the THC which causes that. It comes from smoking. Wether that might be a sigarette or a joint. If you eat space cake or w/e you won't experience any of that. I think we have to stick to pure THC causes effects...

Marijuana should be legal but will not become legal.

Too many people make too much money off of it being illegal and the gross income for the government and the drug dealers would decrease dramatically.

Exactly lol. Smoking anything can affect your lungs. But I just don't get what you're basing the whole "harm your short-term memory" thing off of. I mean yeah your friends who smoke weed MIGHT have memory issues but how can you relate that to marijuana? I tried researching it and I found nothing to prove that. So, until someone proves it, yeah, I think weed's okay.

Weed should not be legal because if we make it legal, people will go to drugs which aren't legal.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm confused at how people in here use "it's unhealthy/hurts your memory" as reasoning for it being illegal. You know what causes adverse effects to your health?

Fast food.

Soda pop.

Alcohol.

Lack of exercise.

EXCESSIVE PLAYING OF VIDEOGAMES IE RUNESCAPE.

Stress (IE everything in America)

It doesn't matter if marijuana harms you. It DOES NOT. All it comes down to is that humans have the basic right to make choices for themselves assuming they don't harm others in these choices. Seeing as marijuana use does not directly harm any other human being, it needs to be legal. The facts that we can tax it and regulate it are just icing on the cake.

Everyone wants marihuana because they are junkies. I am just stating my opinion.

There's only three things that's actually harmful about smoking a doobie:

1. Munchies, if you don't exercise, you'll get fat!:D
2. Becoming a slacker right after you've smoked, I for example have a hard time taking my sorry ass to the gym whenever I've smoked, however, I'm only slacking while I'm high, the day after I'm fully restored again.
3. Smoking anything harms your lungs, however, you can just use a vaporizer to avoid this one.

The summery is that it's not really harmful at all, infact, I've read that it's actually helping you fortify your immune system, I for once havn't been sick even once ever since I've started smoking.

Stay legal! People smoke anyways, so who the fk cares.

It should be legal for the retired. ;)

Cannabis does have negative effects, unlike what most of the people in this thread seem to think. It increases the likelihood of a heart attack phenomenally within a short period of smoking, it impairs memory function and concentration, it negatively effects the immune system over time, it may effect fertility for long-term smokers (I wonder if this is a bad thing!), and it may harshly effect mental health over time (depression, psychosis).

Generally speaking, healthy individuals who smoke on a rare basis will not need to worry too much on these effects - but should note they do exist. What bothers me is the stupid arguments most people here seem to think, so I'm going to lay them out and explain them:

  • It is a plant product and therefore harmless. This argument is probably the most stupid of them all - cyanide is produced by a huge sum of plants; and how about death cap mushrooms? I'm sure you wouldn't want to down one of those...
  • Alcohol and smoking tobacco are both legal and worse for your health. Although it is true that both are largely bad for your health - worse-so than cannabis, this is not a legitimate argument for the legalisation of cannabis - if anything, it is an argument for the outlaw of alcohol and tobacco.
  • Cannabis is not addictive. Sorry to say, but it is. Less-so than alcohol, but more-so than LSD.
  • It is useful for medical purposes. Although it may be, there are plenty of other, legal drugs that can do the job of cannabis here, much easier and more effectively. It does have it's place here, however, so I support the use of cannabis for medical purposes, when suitable only and when more effective drugs cannot be used. People should note that this is not an argument for the legalisation of cannabis for recreational purposes.
  • It has never caused a death. Not directly, sure - but it has contributed to deaths via heart attacks, car accidents (I'm sure that if it is legalised, driving while high will be illegal, but it's useful in proving my point), suicides and murders. Although all of these may have occurred when the subjects in question were not intoxicated, you may consider this to work like alcohol.
  • It will stop drug wars. More likely than not, it will not. There are plenty of other drugs where profit is to be made.
  • It cures cancer. There is no real evidence to support this. Proper scientific studies show that it may not cause cancer but nothing supports it healing cancer.

If there are any I've missed, be sure to ask. If you've read my post up until this point, you will know my stance - but if not, it's that I support the legalisation of cannabis for medical purposes (only in isolated incidents when appropriate), and study. Recreational use does not need to be legalised.

Well, I can agree with you on most parts but you should remember that legalizing cannabis would only help us to provide more information about cannabis. Like I said before, if we legalize cannabis it could provide the government with a lot of tax money which could then be used on research of cannabis or a whole bunch of other stuff (even rehab institutions). You should remember that legalizing cannabis does not necessarily lead to more use of cannabis. You can see in the statistics which Maxi linked in his first post that legalizing doesn't increase use of cannabis.

Maybe if we legalize cannabis a real cure for cancer could be found out of the money we gain from cannabis taxes.

i support its legality, but i don't like when people are like "this medicine is SOO good for you, i NEED my medicine, look at all the benefits" I'm not saying that weed doesnt have medical benifets but, the majority of the people smoking it dont smoke it for its benifets, they smoke it because it's fun, and a healthier way being non-sober, compared to alcohol.

Kyle about your point, weed can easily lead to bad things such as crack etc, that's why it's illegal in most countries and Alcohol isn't because Alcohol doesn't lead you to try stuff which can harm you and everything around you.

Since when can't alcohol harm everyone around you? Pretty sure it does more than almost any drug..

I think that it will become legal because it makes the Government an income.
