Question about bot-quantity on my potential dedicated server

Featured Replies

Hello reader, thank you for reading my thread.

I'm hiring a dedicated server soon and I'm wondering how much bots It'll be able to take on. Also I'd like to hear from somebody who has a little experience with them what I should be looking at when hiring a dedi.

- whats more important? the RAM? The GHz? The processor?

- What should I take into notice with the whole IP changing deal? should I ask if I can change it in advance?

- Many hosting company's offer two choices: windows and Linux. Windows being more expensive, what do you recommend using? what's a better option?

I'm currently looking at the following server:

Processor: Intel XEON E3-1230v2 ( ivy bridge )

CPU Speed: 4 x 3,3 GHz

RAM: 16GB

Hard disk: 2 x 2000 GB

This'll cost me about 80/90 euro's a month

How many bots will this ^ setup allow me to run? and what would have to be adjusted to get the maximum amount of bots to run? :)

Thanks a lot to anybody giving their opinion or their advice in advance!

i'm guessing around 20-30 bots, maybe even more :) if you can download things on there, I highly recommand a ram-memory cleaner(such as cleanmem mini-monitor) so reduce OSB's memory leak.

most VPS's don't offer IP-changes on demand, so that might be something to ask in advance

Okay that sounds good! I'm pretty sure I can indeed download things on there.

How about this one:

processor:     Intel® Xeon® E3-1270v3 (Haswell)

CPU:             4 x 3,5 GHz

RAM:             32 GB

HARD Disk:   2 x 2.000 GB + 128 GB SSD

110/120 euro's a month for this one

that thing is a complete beast, and could probably run like 50 bots, but that takes alot managing them :o

I'm no complete expert , but with the one your looking at just now , I think you could easily do 25 bots min without any major problems , maybe 30-35 max , good luck man

I've got somebody managing the farm 16 hours a day, so that should be no problem :)

Thanks a lot for the reply's so far! Keep em comming :D

Windows seems to be a lot better for running osbot in terms of memory usage. I would go with the first package, since you most likely won't be needing 32gb of ram. at 16gb you will probably be maxing out your cpu before your ram runs out.

Also, try to negotiate with the host. You need very little storage space/bandwidth. You can get the price significantly lower by asking for a custom plan and saying that you can take the minimum hard disk space/bandwidth ( Most hosts have around 500gb-1tb as the minumum for bandwidth, and for hard disk space even like 5-10gb would be more than enough, but minimum is normally like 250). If you have somebody monitoring the bots 16 hours a day though, with them constantly connected via something like teamviewer or vnc, then you might want to up the bandwidth a bit because I think that could use up a lot.

The dedi I am currently using is http://www.hostingsource.com/services/aff.php?aff=209. I pay 87$ a month for a i7 -3770k (3.5ghz, quad core, with hyperthreading), and 16gb of ram. Only get like 1 tb of bandwidth and 250gb hard disk, which is good. The most bots I've put on it is 25, but I could probably put more.

I don't know if you could get a price like that with them now though, I ordered mine during a double ram deal and negotiated a bit. I was originally getting an i5, but they ran out and gave me an i7 for free. Negotiating with the host can actually save you a lot of money, so I would suggest doing so.

Also, an important note, make sure the host you are signing up with allows you run a botting client on it, there are a lot of companies which will not allow it, and could possibly terminate your services if they find out.

This guy knows what he's talking about.  I'd take my advice from him about server hosting and whatnot.

I'm running the exact same setup

Processor: Intel XEON E3-1230v2 ( ivy bridge )

CPU Speed: 4 x 3,3 GHz

RAM: 16GB

Hard disk: 2 x 2000 GB

I can run 20 bots, before the CPU fills up, there's a bit of ram left.

A single SSD would run better since you don't need much space. 3TB bandwidth will do you well.

And no don't use an i5 or an i7 for a dedicated server.

If you get an i7 for a good price it will perform just as well as any server grade cpu. I thought the only real benefit of a server grade was ECC ram, which you wouldn't even need just for botting. I haven't had any issues with mine for the past month.

I have the exact same processor and amount of ram. It definitely is speedy. When I ran 7 bots at once, I had about 20-25% cpu used. Ram is kinda useless, as long as it's 1600mhz+

You limiting factor will be how many other people use the same server as you. I built my own so that wasn't an issue.

Stability. Plus the E3-1230v2 costs 230$ compared to the equivalent i7 of 330$

Wow that's a lot, you can pickup a similar dedi for $40-50 with Windows

I think he's talking about the price of purchasing, not renting a dedi. Also, an e3-1230 for 40-50$/month? If you actually have access to that I'd love to know :P And the host I went with was selling i series for much cheaper than the xeons, so I went with it instead.
