You need the latest version of Java.

You can get it here.

If you already have Java, you may want to remove your current version and then reinstall it.

You can also try getting JDK if the above suggestion doesn't work.

Ensure you are using the correct version of java for your OS.

For example, many java users on 64-bit operating systems run a 32-bit browser (such as firefox) and consequently only install the 32-bit java onto their computer. However, in order to run stand-alone java programs on a 64-bit operating system, you must use the 64-bit java. 64-bit java has to be installed manually, as the default download from javas site is the 32-bit version.

To check if you have a 64-bit operating system, open the start menu, right click "Computer," and select properties. Under "System Type" it will tell you your operating system and whether it is 64-bit or not. It is worth noting that if your operating system says "x86," this means 32-bit, while "x64" means 64-bit.

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (this is where you can find the 64-bit/32-bit downloads)

Lucky for us 64-bit OS users, 64-bit java and 32-bit java are co-compatible.
