Does having bot accounts affect the possibility of an account that I havent botted on's chances of getting banned by association?

Some people say it does, but from my experience as long as you don't interact with your bots on that account you should be fine.

This, but there might be rare occasion where they actually do hit your main.

It's all random, best bet is to dedicate your home IP to your main accounts and only use bots on proxies.
