I know sometimes there can be feral vampires over this way. Is the script safe to use in this instance? I have a HCIM and would hate to wake up to find out it had bugged out and died to a vampire. As for the Canifis patch; there is code in there to handle this but if you can't risk it ever dying to the NPC, it might be best to avoid the patch.
