So I have a free vps and it works fine, except it gets extremely laggy after an hour or so, and I need to restart the server.

You should check the resource manager on your VPS to see whether the CPU or ram is maxing out.

Depends on your CPU power and Ram you always could turn on ''cpu saver mode'' and ''disable client rendering'' or something like that and then it might  go better.

Pretty good indicator of a memory leak, or even shoddy vps hosting on a shared cpui
