So the average price in the area I go to school is around 250k USD... But it's a sort of a well to do area with very good schools in the area which bumps it up quite alot.

In florida the average value is around 190k USD but in 2012 you could buy a house there for 120k... 

 

Having also lived in Europe I know the building codes are much stricter hence higher housing costs.
