API method to retrieve an item's ID using it's name

Featured Replies

So I'm fairly sure this does not exist in the current API (please correct me if I am wrong).

I know we currently have a method for retrieving an item's name from it's ID, but I would also like the reverse if it is possible.

Thanks

There isn't a way to find a unique ID based on a name though, so if one were to be made, it'd have to process the cache and return a bunch of IDs. For example, the name "Coins" has several IDs. The RS client also doesn't provide an easy way to do what you'd like. To do it, we'd duplicate the client's functionality ourselves.

Okay, well if you think the effort of creating the method outweighs the benefit, then feel free to close this. I think one of the main use cases for it is to look up the prices of items, which can be accomplished using alternative means.
