How to Combat Impostors

Recently, I've noticed more and more impostors impostoring myself as well as others.

Skype: Jaggeman2.
Skype: ucanduenizalti
Skype: gaeshaw.pb
Skype: RsTradingeoc07
Skype: Yehnikaro
Skype: ahsrs.1

The above are only a few of many impostors lurking forums for new members and marketers since they are easy prey. They're extremely clever and they have a lot of experience with impostoring others so they're very efficient. If you're new or don't market much, you won't even know that you've been scammed until they leave chat and you'll honestly think that the real person scammed you ignorant to the fact that it was an impostor.

What the impostors essentially do:

  • Make an impostor of a person with high feedback.
  • Look for someone with low feedback trading.
  • Impostor copies skype info of person with high feedback.
  • Impostor gets a friend to act as trader.
  • Impostor's friend is ok with using a 'MM' and the victim adds a MM to a group chat.
  • Impostor's friend leaves group chat giving any excuse. He will then make a new group chat with the impostor and the victim.
  • Victim thinks it's the same person and stops replying in old chat and starts talking in new chat.
  • Impostor and impostor's friend now scam victim while the victim believes it's the actual MM and ends up getting scammed.

  • Impostor has two skypes open - either by them self or with a friend.
  • Impostor copies person with high feedback skype details.
  • Impostor talks to victim impersonating someone with high fb.
  • Impostor talks to person with high fb impersonating victim.
  • Impostor then copies/paste word for word what they say.
  • Both people think they're talking to one another while both people are actually talking to impostor
  • Person with high feedback sends a screenie of chat and the victim sees chat is identical and believes they're talking to the right person.

If you don't get what I wrote in the bullet list, please let me know what you're confused about and I'll try to elaborate as best I can so you may have a better understanding of what they actually do.

Now, to get to the main part of the thread.

MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO!!!

First off, don't go first to someone with a couple of feedback. ALWAYS use a MM! Too many people get scammed because they have the mentality that someone won't scam them for 500k, 1m, 5m, etc.

Whether you're the buyer or the seller, you need to double check and verify who you're trading with.

  1. Check the person's skype name!

Make sure you check for the person's skype name. This can usually be found at the bottom of their profile. However, it can be stated in a thread.

  2. Adding the person on skype!

When adding the person on skype, make sure you type it exactly as it is spelt on their profile and/or post/thread! This is a very critical part of skype. The slightest difference and you can be talking to a potential impostor! Once you've typed out their Skype name, Skype will suggest a bunch of close matches. 99% of the time, the person you're trying to add is first on the list!

  3. Just because they're the first name on the list doesn't mean they're the right person!

You may have mistyped the Skype name or falsely added the wrong person somehow! You need to double check and make sure you're talking to the right person. Before you add their skype, right click on the name and go to 'view profile'.

Verify that this is the correct skype you're supposed to add and send that friend request!

You can also verify who you're talking to through PM. Make sure you get a detailed PM. This goes for the sellers as well as the buyers!

When I PM people, I write my RSN as well as my skype name. This way, even if the person I'm supposed to be trading is talking to an impostor, they should see my RSN and (hopefully) be smart enough not to trade another account. I highly advise sellers/buyers to PM screenshots of skype conversations as that making you is highly susceptible to fall for impostors.

Be sure to always check for skype names! Don't assume you're talking to who you think you are! Every little character matters and if it doesn't match up exactly, don't trade or verify with a PM their actual skype name! If anything seems suspicious - avoiding to PM for any reason, giving a different name in skype than received in a PM, asking you to talk to another person on skype - stop the trade and back out or PM the person back to verify!

I hope this helps to those who spend the few minutes out of their day to read it. smile.png Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help where possible.
