How do I get a new internet service provider?

Do they have to come to my house and install the shit or can I just buy their service and apply it myself through the internet modem, etc

Most places don't have multiple ISP's, but if your lucky enough to be in an area with choices they would have to go to your house and install shit

Usually though, there is only one isp. For example, my area has cox and only cox, If I wanted to switch to comcast I couldn't, although I don't know why anyone would want to switch to Comcast lol.

The area i am in ONLY provide Qwest/CenturyLink, and it's quite slow :(
