IP help :(

What does this mean? I have found that my IP is dynamic, I think.. And so I need to change my IP. I looked up a few guides telling me to simply unplug my router/modem and it would be as simple as that, but my IP did not change. Another method was this...

Below is what I followed, but I received this whenever I attempted to "Ipconfig/release" ... http://prntscr.com/7mlohl

Any help as to what this means would really help.

  • Open your MS-DOS Command Prompt. To do this, click your Windows “Start” button. Select “Search.” Type “Command” in the search box. Press “Enter” on your keyboard. Double-click the program to launch it.

  • Type “ipconfig/all” at the blinking prompt. Press “Enter” on your keyboard. Your current IP address is listed. Write it down so you can reference it later.

  • Type “ipconfig/release” at the blinking prompt. Press “Enter” on your keyboard.

  • Wait 60 seconds. Type “ipconfig/renew” at the blinking prompt. Press “Enter” on your keyboard.

  • Type “ipconfig/all.” Press “Enter.” Look at the new IP address. Compare the new IP address to the old IP address from Step 2 to ensure it is different. If the new IP address is the same as the old one, continue releasing and renewing the address until you pull a new one from Time Warner's IP address pool.

just restart your router

I have found that I only use a modem..is that possible.

I have a Belkin wireless play usb adapter which I plugged into another pc that i'm currently using.

just restart your router

He means modem. But if that doesn't work (and I mean leave it unplugged for five minutes) you may have to call your ISP to be assigned a new IP
