Just a honest thought

I went through various programming/script sections and saw how amazing you guys are at coding, all the things you guys know, and how ready you all are to learn java and start scripting for runescape. Have any of you every thought of every trying to start something. I know making these scripts are in itself mini start ups. But I mean stuff in the real world. All your skills are so useful, maybe you guys already have jobs and this is just your hobby, but if it isn't I would be damned if you guys never even tried to start something concrete for others to benefit from. Maybe something non profit, or anything valuable to others lesser off, maybe something for profit, just something that has a direct effect in reality.

Most of the people are just people in high school or college, I'm sure for the most part they will be getting CS degrees and getting a job in the future when they're done with school. This is just some side $ for them which they can get with a hobby.

This is a hobby for me.

I worked for Intel as an internship for 11 months.

I've started a company for programming Apps, but it didn't really go anywhere (none of the people in it were dedicated enough, and it slowly died out, as most start ups do)

I've started programming a PC game, but same as above, none of us live near each other, so it's difficult to maintain a good flow of communication/motivation, and has died out.

I created an app for a programming competition for Intel, and took 2nd place with it (my brother and some random guy were also on our team), we would push to finish the app and sell it, as it's pretty useful, but another company had already made it and with far better features. :P

All in all, as a start up programmer, it's hard to find something to create that is both useful, and new.

I realize you can create something other people have already created, and still profit/contribute, but in my mind, that's a lot more difficult/less rewarding. :P

Programming runescape bots got me into programming a few years ago and now I am applying for a Computer Science degree next year. The only other things I am particularly good at are maths and physics but I don't think I am willing to put in the effort for a physics degree and I thinks doing only maths at degree level would be boring. I really enjoy programming and general computer stuff so I think that a CS degree is perfect for me.
