i recently clean installed ubuntu 12 and installed wine

i installed openJdk 7 in ubuntu software center
however it says i dont have java installed

i downloaded jre 7u55 however its is a tar.gz file and i have no idea what to do with it

can someone walk me thru how to install this i would really like to get osbot working on linux
