What a time to be alive...

As many of you know I run a diesel performance and repair shop in real life.

Well this morning just found out one of my dear friends, who truth be told I wouldnt have been able to succeed if it wasnt for his account in the early days (Multi-millionaire owns a huge pipeline company, gave me his fleet account for all repairs) has been pouching all my top employees to start his own personal in-house mechanic shop (Cutting me out of repairs and doing them himself, which I can't blame him for wanting to do, but can blame him for trying to steal my top talent)

They are unaware I know, one of my best friends who introduced us is the one talking to my guys trying to get them to go work for his boss, (the business owner who I considered my dear friend)

I currently have 5 of their work trucks at my shop that I haven't gotten to yet, and I know for sure one of my top techs is going to leave to go work for them (They offered him almost double the pay)

I imagine a lesser man would be worried or concerned, and I would be lying if I said at first these emotions weren't ones I felt. But soon enough I realized this wasn't something to be worried about, its a challenge to be confronted. I am being tested, and every move I make for hear on out will decide how well I come out of this storm. His account is one of my largest (Six figures in revenue alone from him) so it's going to be a hit.

I figure I will fix his vehicles I have know, settle up on all the invoices, then tell him I am aware of his move, and wish him the best of luck. I've seen this move play out with other shops and most of the time it results in failure, so I plan on letting him learn from his mistakes. (That being said, he has more than enough money to take losses for many years)

But like I said...What a time to be alive

Damn that sucks, you have to keep something in your head constantly my friend. No-one no matter how long you've known them can be trusted. No matter how much business you've done with them or had 100% complete trust between them. They are planning at that perfect moment to backstab you, this goes for anything.

That's definitely a positive way to look at it.

With the way the economy is, like you said, you can't blame them for wanting more pay.
Personally, if i didn't NEED the extra money, i would stay. It's a loyalty thing. I'm not alone in that either, i'm sure you have employees that feel the same way.

Either way, best of luck.

That's a pity, but hey, that's life..
Same happend to my dad..
And he only got stronger by it !
Whishing you the best of luck !

You must have alot of friends... Real friends are to be trusted 100%

They sure are, but you're looking at it in another way. I'm talking business-wise no one can be trusted, everyone wants to be looking after themselves and not their buddy.

In some respects that's sad to hear.

I am glad to here that you are looking in a positive light and I hope in the future you are returned the decency in some way.

There is the old saying, what Goes around comes around. Something like that.

EDIT: has he ever asked you to work for him, taking your business and putting it under his?

I actually found out because they offered my shop manager $600 more a week (For the life of me I dont know why he came to me with this info instead of accepting their offer)

False, i know that if i had my closest friends as buisness rivals. They would never backstab me. They just wouldn't

Keep your head up buddy. If they aren't loyal they're just not friends. Let it play out.
