My future computer build - is it good enough?

Featured Replies

Ok so after many year's I am finally going to build my own computer and move off this lame Pentium 4 with 1GB ram, here is the build I have come up with after a couple hour's of looking through part's & stuff. I am planning on playing game's such as Rome 2 total war, Arma 3, Battlefield 4 and other awesome games that will be coming out in addition to botting runescape.

Not sure why you picked such a powerful CPU for that rig, but w/e it is a very good one. Also you're motherboard is shit compared to the rest of your hardware, people always make the mistake of cheaping out on their motherboard. You need at least a 650W power supply, you will be straining your 520W with those hard drives and that GPU.

I tried to select a good CPU because I didn't want to have to ever replace it in the next 5 years and thanks for letting me know that it isn't a great motherboard what would you recommend getting as an alternative?

put in 16gb memory, boi u be good

I will do that later on, 8GB is good enough at first already i'm looking at blowing $1500 on this and can't afford too much more then that. I hate living in Australia sometimes PC part's cost a lot more here.

He has a 850W Power supply, that's good enough.

Exactly, i have 8gb of ram and at this time yet i never lacked of ram.

Ofc, if you're a super ultra multi tasker, botting, rendering video and playing battelfield 3 plus porn you'll obviously will need more but if all you do is bot and watch movies or play something else with 8gb you'll be more than fine.

I have almost the same as you have there, except i have a GTX 560 TI Wich is better than the 660 when we talk about anti-alising but i'd rather have a 660 ofc but i'm fine with the 560, i play dayz at constant 50 FPS while botting.

I changed the PSU in my build after his comment.

What awful advice.

maybe go for a 670 gtx or if you stick with the 660 you can always put money aside to purchase a seperate one and run them together to get similar/better+- performance compared to the 680 gtx.

Why are you using ivy bridge when haswell is out? It's the same price for 15% more preformance. Get the 4770k

the 'K' version has a completely unlocked multiplier, so even that that processor seems old, you'll be able to get another year or two out of it.  I'm still on the 2600K and it hasn't had a hiccup of bottleneck.

Here's a combo deal for cpu mobo and psu

58$ off. - spend an extra 100$ and get an unlocked multiplier + 15% better performance, and awesome motherboard with built in wifi and same deal on the psu

same as first mobo, but bundled

MSI MPower - I would buy this one personally.  My friend has the motherboard - It's amazing

Are you kidding me? Haswell is absolute shit right now. Don't buy it

And where did you hear this?  Haswell blows away the ivy bridge line.  It also got a few extra goodies in the form of instructions built into the chip. SNB -> 10% -> IVB -> 15% Haswell

Look up the benchmarks.

Haswell also can handle more lanes of PCI-E if you have many PCI-E devices.

Do some research!

Plus if he buys into Ivy he's stuck with a dead socket.

True . Haswell is definetly better. The power consumption is also down a bit right? On Microcenter they are offering a haswell i5 processor for $159.99. Im probably going to get it :D
