This is just a discussion forum topic for an online college course i'm taking... If you're bored enough at your computer, have at it :) I'm stumped honestly, and seeing one or two people's opinions would be fantastic haha.

here it is: :p

"How is the state of the natural environment a social issue? (Think globally, not locally) e.g. rising ocean temperatures, changing weather patterns, melting of glaciers, genetically altered vegetation, use of fossil fuels, and other."

Its fucking cold in the midwest.

plzglobalwarmingwork

we need more global warming in Ohio.

We have global warming in Finland atm. No snow yet.

Well I've done a similar course in university and this is what I can think of at the top of my head:

1. It displaces people. Rising water levels causes millions of people to relocate each year.

2. Environmental crisis targets third world countries more than first world countries. We are able to protect ourselves and have an abundant of resources while others don't.

3. Genetically modified vegetation is a lot more expensive than the normal kind so farmers who make a living off their crops cannot afford these expensive seeds.

Sorry if it's not good enough.

The social issue is that the world is changing and we can't stop that. However, we are speeding it up. As we live our lives as humans we alter the Earth more and more. The reason this is an issue is because of the political and economic effects. Look at Africa they have countries who have been on years of international life support. If countries such as the United States lose their power to fund these programs because of how expensive food is, how hard it is to produce some kind of food, or get stuck with fights over how many fossil fuels we need those countries will deteriorate in violence. Countries in Africa will become homes for terrorist groups and become a no-man's land right in the middle of the world.

Hope that helps. Only a freshman in high school but that was my take on the question. Feedback on how i answered would be appreciated :)

Extreme climate change will lead many places in the world to be unsuitable for living. Rising temperatures means rice, the main food source of asia, will not be able to grow in many places. Rising water levels means many flooded, low lying regions. This means there will be loads of refugees seeking help from countries which are not as harshly affected by global climate change. Scarce resources in many part of the world will lead to increased tensions between countries, and hence your social impact.
