January 7, 201412 yr Okay first off I'd like to say I have been buying and selling accounts off and on for about 2 years now, first on PA then here. After selling a total of 5 accounts, 2 of which weren't my originals here on OSBot, I was approached 7-12 days afterwards by the buyers telling me the account was recovered. Out of instinct, I assumed I was responsible for giving back the money I accepted from them, and then the original seller should either be banned or refund me. After refunding @cinnamon and then disputing the original owner, I was told that because "I couldn't prove who recovered", nothing could be done and that was that. I left it be and forgot about it because I did the right thing and refunded him. I blocked the original owner, and he can scam whoever he wants I suppose. I then was approached by my 2nd account buyer saying it was recovered. Of course I have the same mindset and am going to uphold my name and of course I refunded him immediately. This then really got to me and I asked a moderator what rule says I shouldn't refund, and original owner can't be proven so we will just let him stick around, won't this lead to insane amount of account scamming and recovering?! I was told because I didn't recover, it was not my fault and that he thought it was very nice and respectful that I refunded when I didn't have to. I guess I just want to know how others feel about this because I did and could not actually (because I'm not original owner) recover the account, but still felt I have the obligation to refund. Please leave feedback and if I'm just too morally correct or if there should be a rule change! Thanks.
January 7, 201412 yr you are responsible as you are selling the account. Don't sell accounts that you don't originally own because if they are recovered by the original owner than it makes you look like the scammer and you will have to refund. Let's say the staff did decide if you weren't the original owner then you wouldn't be held accountable then everyone would account scam and say they it wasn't them and no punishment could be done as everyone would say "I wasn't the original owner"

You said "Let's say the staff did decide if you weren't the original owner then you wouldn't be held accountable" THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY TOLD ME! That is why I am outraged!
January 7, 201412 yr As a previous account seller of OSBot, I can make this plain and simple. 1) If you are selling an account, it doesn't matter whether you are the original owner or not, the fact is you are selling an account. 2) The person BUYING the account should think ahead and ask who the previous owners were AND who the original owner is. The buyer should also ask whether they are going to get the original email or not. They should also ask who actually HAS the original email. 3) Under the "How to sell your accounts" Rules section, #9 says your terms of service, or rules. This is ENTIRELY up to the account OWNER, the person who is SELLING the account. If the owner says that if the account gets recovered, you will pay them back the full amount, then you will pay them back the full amount, if the conditions does not say this, then the owner is not liable for ANYTHING. You as a buyer participated in the market and traded at your own risk, you should ask who the original owner was, previous owners, original email etc etc. You cannot expect a refund if your account was recovered. In the likelihood of an account being recovered and the BUYER has evidence that the seller IS the original owner, OR is a previous owner WITH the original email address, only then can you open a dispute claiming that this person had recovered their account, as they are the original owner/the person with the original email address. Now then, the only thing that moderators can do is leave it the way it is, or make it a requirement that each thread must post previous owners, the original owner and WHO has the original email address to the account. In fact I will add this now. Moderates have never been very strict in the market section (Moderating what you post, not disputes), however recently I have been noticing MANY recovery threads. If your thread does NOT meet the requirement of http://osbot.org/forum/topic/18428-how-to-sell-an-account-correctly/ then it will be locked immediately. First you will be given a warning via PM and added to my naughty list. The second time, more punishment will come. I will begin monitoring the account section more effectively from now on to attempt to reduce the account recovering section. IF you are buying an account, I HIGHLY ADVISE that you screen shot the terms and conditions before you buy the account. Good luck.
January 7, 201412 yr Author ^ Very clear and respectful, thank you I have added a TOS to my sales page, and will refer if I am buying an account or if it ever occurs again!
January 7, 201412 yr Author sucks for you to lose so much money tho I agree, I lost 4m and $37 from the two refunds. However that won't happen again thanks to Gilgad's information he provided. I also did it off of principle and am happy to have the feedback and trust that I do
January 7, 201412 yr Author Account seller should be responsible. Agreed, however it is true that the buyer should ask the right questions etc. Guess that's how it is for now, maybe seller will have some responsibility somewhere down the future.
January 7, 201412 yr How about guy will say that account was recovered, but it's not true? How can he prove that?
January 7, 201412 yr Author How about guy will say that account was recovered, but it's not true? How can he prove that? Another difficult situation, that's why I am sort of sad that I refunded both buyers, but on the other hand I saved my name and have no more questioning. It is undoubtedly a very tough situation to prove and execute, but I hope there is a solution soon enough. Edited January 7, 201412 yr by JakePully
January 7, 201412 yr also if you know previous owners, who will be responsible for this? everyone can say "i didn't recovered it", it's still not clear...
January 7, 201412 yr Author I agree, that is the issue I spelled out above lol, don't know how to fix it and I'm looking for the fix so scammers (recoverers) won't be so easily invisible. Hense this post.
