I am hopefully soon going to train magic to 70 or maybe even 82 magic with curses, and therefore I need a Mud staff. 

I've seen there's both a Mud Battlestaff and Mystic Mud staff, and theres some price difference. As I only need it for magic, I'm not sure which one I should buy? Seems like the requirements are a little different...

There's no difference at all since you're just going to splash anyway. The mystic mud staff gives some useless str bonuses. Get the cheapest one.
