November 21, 201312 yr Yeah, when Windows 8.1 got released some weeks ago I upgraded Win 8 to Win 8.1, and since then I've had problems with my laptop. I cant connect to my Wifi network, and I see its a common problem. I have tried everything, and I cant even seem to format my computer Since i have no cd/dvd drive in my computer i have to use USB boot. I have Windows 7 on my USB key, and I cant even seem to access BIOS on startup, tried all keys (F2, F10, ESC, etc). It's really annoying, since I normally use my laptop to bot overnight.. I dont have warranty on the laptop anymore, so they cant fix it, since its quite some years ago I bought it. I've tried almost everything - anyone else experienced this, and can help me? Would be appreciated. LAN connection works on the laptop, but I need to use Wi-Fi, and I also really need to format the computer anyway, so yeah.. I have tried the format option built in Win 8, not working either :L EDIT: The laptop is ASUS UL30A if it helps Edited November 21, 201312 yr by BottersLyfe
November 21, 201312 yr You see, before I upgraded. I did a system restore point. Always a good tip to use before you update ANYTHING.Try bringing it in to your nearest Computer shop. Just ask for tips, because they'll do anything to get your money. When my Toshiba Satellite broke last year I managed to convince them that it was their duty to fix it for free as I shopped there frequently.Hope any of this helps. Sorry for off Topic >.<

Sorry for off Topic >.< Yeah, I know, I forgot to make a restore point Might try bringing it to the computer shop if theres no better solutions, it will be expensive tho, since I never buy any hardware etc in physical shops. Hopefully there's some genius who comes up with a good solution here

November 27, 201312 yr It sounds like a driver issue. I'm having similar problems on my windows 7... Only I am able to use WiFi but not a LAN port. You can go in the device manager to try to update your networking drivers. I accidentally un-installed mine and don't have a drive disk to restore it. So don't make the same mistake I did, but do try updating those drivers as that may be the problem. I'm planning on system restoring my laptop, but I don't have anything valuable on it anymore and all i do is bot on it now so that will probably make it faster anyways. So annoying having to use WiFi over LAN port; getting like 20 FPS instead of 50
November 28, 201312 yr Try booting to your recovery partition, back up your files and data, do a complete restore Worked for me, but was also told I could have just reinstalled all my drivers, since then have kept them all on a memory stick just in case!
