Leadership and Justice

Featured Replies

In the United States you need to be at least 35 years of age to be President.

This sets the assumption that age is a requirement for leadership, good judgement, and an understanding of justice.

Is this a good law?

Couldn't a genius be better suited to the task of leadership than any other person, but still be unable to lead?

How young is too young?

What are your thoughts on the matter?

to a certain level, I agree with the age limit, I just think it should be lower, someone that is extremely smart could have been gaining experience with politics and becoming wiser. however, you have to take the listeners into account to, how do you think people wil respond to a 22 year old(for example), being half their age but president? I doubt that'd be welcomed :P

Do you think that this also applies to leadership elsewhere?

Is there a point to representatives and school heads in middle school/high school?

I'm in college and unfortunately due to transfer requirements, I have to live in a dorm as a non-freshman. I'm older than my Resident Advisor (the person who is in charge of catching you if you drink/smoke/etc.) and while I'm an usual case, it's galling to have someone who I believe to be less thoughtful or respectful of others to lord their position over me.

Is the argument in this case that by having a leadership position, they learn how to be better leaders? I'd rather have a leader be prepared for the power and lead responsibly, than have to trial-and-error with them, all the while building disrespect until they finally do become what they should be.

I enjoy hearing how other people think, so please do respond :)
