After selecting F2P on start up the client is till starting with a P2P world? I have rebooted the client etc but still no change. Any suggestions?

Just change the starting world manually if that's the only part where it fucks up?

Pretty sure that option is broken. You could load w/ CLI and set the world using the -world param though.

Just change the world manually
