I've got a macbook and i've had trouble in the past. This is what i did to fix it.

First: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1 Check what version of java you have

Second: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp Download the latest version

Third (second step will not work if your mac is not up to date. it should be on update 10.7+ or else you can't download the latest java) -

http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/  <----download the latest version of mountain lion os x incase you have anything an earlier version. The version is a small toll of $20, but well worth it. anything else, send me a message, hope this help.

Thank you this really helped. It´s working for me now.
