If you make steel bars and then cannonballs you'll profit if not you lose about 40 gp per.

You lose about 10 gp a mithril bar if you go by zybez prices, that's the best from what I can see.

(Buying rates for mithril bars, selling rates for ores + coal). Very possible to profit a small bit or break even.
