Devblog: Botting Update

It’s been 3 months since we gave you an update on the status of BotWatch in Old School. Since then, we’ve completed the integration of the full system and seen a massive increase in the removal of bots.

When we first announced that some of the basic BotWatch systems had been integrated, we ran numerous tests to get the system up http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?317,318,424,65068399# and as accurate as possible. During its testing phase, it managed to successfully ban 21,000 accounts within the first two weeks of turning it on. Since then, and after capitalising on the some of the new and fully integrated features, the system has successfully removed over 200,000 goldfarmers and bots from the game.

Whilst the importance of the system was clearly evident in both the number of bots visibly disappearing from the game and the number of reports decreasing, we did receive some concerns over a number of false ban reports. After some investigation, it was clear that we had made some mistakes but we worked to rectify those as quickly as we could. Learning from our mistakes, we’re now confident that the system is only targeting bots. 
 

Our next step is to focus on the hi-scores table. It’s been widely reported that a lot of the bots are not only stealing your resources, but your ranks as well which we know is really important to you. Thanks to some of our newly implemented systems, we can now target those who seek to unfairly claim ranks from you, most notably in the recent removal of some accounts within the top 20 overall ranks.

As we move forward, we’re continuing to strengthen our grip on those who believe it’s alright to taint our community and bring harm to the economy and your hard work. The integrity and future success of our games is in your

WHAT?!!?! They make what, $7 membership price each bot they ban and if you are a serious goldfarmer you will continue to make more..... They don't lose anything...
