It's really a joke; my roommate plays it and a bunch of his friends do too. He's tried playing DotA 2, and he's hardcore into gaming. He's said that he's had issues playing it because of the skill required to. So essentially, I get that most people play LoL because they can't handle DotA 2. And the fact of the matter is that most people can't, aside from those who started with the original game.
