What does the Xbox card do? Is it Microsoft points or XBL.

They have discontinued microsoft points. Now they use local currency as a payment, in the same fashion as microsoft points. You purchase these cards just like gift cards. Please be aware that these codes are region-specific (b/c it is all based off of currency), so a code from Canada may not work in the US, etc.
