Android OSBot Status App

Featured Replies

Hi OSBot,

I have recently found myself continuously logging into my server and checking the status of my bots.

I had an idea to use the OSBot API to push a message out to an android app with could let users know the status of their bots remotely.

For instance, when the jar is initialized, the 'android app server' will be opened on a port with the message 'Ready."

When a bot is started  "AndroidApp.pushMessage(worker + scriptName + " started.");" or something along those lines.

This could be proven to be a very useful feature for people managing a large number of bots who constantly aren't glued to the computer.

A different method of doing this is to have the status saved inside the bot and when the App contacts the server, the message is sent back to the app.

We can use different security methods to stop prying eyes if they know your IP. Such as an encrypted password included in the request message.

If anyone thinks this is a good idea, please say so.

I've never programmed an android app, so I'd need a little bit of learning time unless someone/group helps out

Thanks, dreamliner

iOS please otp support

If you would like to submit it and have it rejected in the Apple App store, be my guest.

If anyone is interested in helping with the development, please say so

I use teamviewer to see my bots, but this sounds like a cool idea

I use remote desktop

To get started with this project we need to agree on a set of API functions first.

Ponder on this and post anything that comes to mind

This sounds like it could go a long way! Support!!

If you can do this I 100% Support, if not.. I'll cry :'(

Even if I do this and create the APK and the API commands get added, it will rely on the dev's to use this feature.

You can't just push messages to an android device. Although this is a very nice idea. biggrin.png

Android itself has to register the device with GCM (Google Cloud Messaging) first. Then the device itself receives an unique iD. That ID has to be sent to OSBot server which can then be used to send messages to that specific device.

In short: you can't just simply push messages to Android devices. :s

Your second idea is doable btw. biggrin.png It would be nice to be able to get the status for all your bots. Something like:

http://osbot.org/status/SXForce/crn7928cr7ncr4c4 (random API key)

which could return the status of all my running bots.

Thanks for the input.  I was leaning more towards the second one as its an overall easier method.  For the first idea I was thinking about just using a keep-alive to well.. keep the connection alive
