Buying my first car :3

Featured Replies

I pay less than 150 for my 08 mustang, bought a v6 base model turned it into a 04 supercharged cobra, spent 6 grand on the motor and 10 grand on the car, ended up selling the 4.0 for 750. But you do you. 2013 = Mustangs now supercars. On a good day bone stock 200mph. Shelby GT 500 Super Snake.

may want to get a quote on your insurance first, insurance on a nice car at a young age can add up

I got an estimate online and it's around $800 for 6 months (high since my age group and sports car) but I think I'll get a discount for good academic standings and since my dad is ex-marines he gets a pretty big discount and I plan to be on his insurance plan.

that isnt too bad lol im 19 and now i pay like 80 a month with a sweet 2001 stang..

22k? thats amazing how long did it take to make that? and awesome that your'e dad will match... my pops laughed at me when i asked him about help on my car.

that nice life, must be nice.

Good luck, but remember cars can break and become worth nothing. Education will follow you wherever you go and can't be taken from you. I can't even begin to imagine what the insurance would cost for an 18 year old primarily driving an S4/5 haha. I already pay 120$ a month for a car worth 5k and no comprehensive coverage. Just another thing to factor in when buying a car. You should call your insurance company and ask for a quote. I wouldn't be suprised if its close to 300$ a month in insurance alone

Just did a quick quote:

Assuming no prior accidents, clean record etc

lol education only promises proof that you know something, doesn't make you good at it or anything for that matter.

Yeah, but you can take your education anywhere. I mean if you have the extra money why not, but education should be priority over nice things that aren't needed lol.

I could own 4 of those if I spent my tuition on cars.

Oh and you need a medical degree to apply to be a doctor

Oh and if you want an s4/5 you should go for B5 or B6. B5 has a 2.7L V6 twin turbo. Very nice cars. You can pick one up for about 10-11k. You can finance it if you want to build credit. The B6 has the 4.2L V8 which is fucking nice. You can get that for about 14-15k in good condition. New cars depreciate so quickly, it's wasting money until you have a well paying job. A good rule of thumb is to spend 30% of what you make in two years on a car. Can't go wrong there.

yes but does that medical degree secure you of a job?with obama care how do you think it is for doctors? do some research on it.Its true though in a way vanity is pointless, But who cares everything revolves around materials. =]

The medical degree was an example lol. Doctors still get paid 100k+ a year, so that's a well living. Any technical degree pretty much secures you with the ability to get a high paying job. You still have to get the job, but I'd like to see someone become a doctor without a degree haha. But spending that much money on a depreciating asset that you have no guarantee of it staying in perfect condition or getting into an accident without having a secure job and some extra money is just stupid.

tbh i get your'e main point, but the accident, or deppriciating asset is a horrible argument.. you could go to school and die before you graduate.... or anytime in between i just think there is no point of valueing one over the other to the point of even calling him stupid for making this move.

You could, but the odds of losing a risky asset is larger than your risk of dying before 25 lol. Plus college is expensive and unless you have the cash floating around, you'll need loans etc. Also I'm talking about a large college so everything I've said is invalid if you go to an inexpensive school lol

so your'e saying i have a better chance getting in a crash and not die then dieing in general before im 25? lol that gave me laugh.

Yeah lol. About 5-6 million cars are involved in accidents each year.

according to http://www.data360.org/dsg.aspx?Data_Set_Group_Id=587&transpose=row

out of 100,000 people in the range of 15-24, 79.2 people die each year... sooo yeah I'm saying you have a great chance of getting into an accident with a brand new car than dying.

I like how you focus on half of what i posted, Main point was if you could die before the of age 25 as well? if you read what i wrote.

aruenteed

actualy i see why you said that sorry if i worded it idk what im doing haha. but the general point was about the value of buying an expensive car or paying tution, which was more important you brought up a point about the chance of a wrecked car from what i remember. I said that you could just as easily die any time before you are 25 so no point in rushing things in your'e life when you are promised zero days.

Congratulations, looks like you've been saving hard.
