Music does help get your mind going, and helps focus. I'm sure a quick google search will yeild multiple research studies. If you do go talk to the principal, be prepared and plan what you are going to say. Also be polite.

It's allowed and encouraged here, we have a "ring your own device" policy in other words i can bring my laptop as long as i use it for class work

yea i have the same thing you have "bring your own device" and we are aloud to do this for almost every class i have its nice. most ohio schools in fact are doing this

Why don't you not listen to music and get some friends... simple solution in my opinion
