It is very simple & basic I personally enjoy minimalism in my web designs and some of clients prefer it, but others also prefer all this fancy shit. As for illustrations it looks good starting off I hate illustrations, but love seeing them if they're quality if you wanna try take my RS sprite turn it into a little avatar illustration for practice I'll throw you a few $ :p 1

And almost all the responsive minimal coded sites are templates or really basic bootstrap sites. :p I'll pm you the sprite 1
